running up that hill…

As you have noticed I rarely post press releases or releases of new products unless it is something that I have tried or something that has really attracted my attention. Well that is the case with adidas by Stella Mc Cartney Spring/Summer 2012 campaign. It is not that I am the sporty type, but I have been a fan of adidas since highschool (check out this post with some of my adidas shoes from back then) and Stella Mc Cartney happens to be one of my fav designers, not only because of her simple and pure lines but also because of the ethics behind the Stella Mc Cartney brand (no furs, no leather, organic clothes). So when I received the Spring/Summer 2012 catalogue I was thrilled not only because the adidas-Mc Cartney collaboration continues but also because the photography and direction of the campaign are atmospheric and look more like a fashion editorial rather than a lookbook campaign. Credits must be given to Viviane Sassen, a Dutch photographer working on various photographic projects, from fashion to a project photographing Africa./

Αν έχετε προσέξει, σπάνια ανεβάζω δελτία τύπου ή λανσαρίσματα καινούργιων προϊόντων εκτός και αν είναι κάτι που έχω δοκιμάσει ή κάτι που έχει τραβήξει την προσοχή μου. Αυτό συνέβη με την καμπάνια adidas by Stella Mc Cartney, για την Άνοιξη/Καλοκαίρι 2012. Δεν είμαι και ο πλέον αθλητικός τύπος, αλλά η adidas και εγώ έχουμε μια σχέση που κρατάει πολλά χρόνια (δείτε αυτό το ποστ με adidas παπούτσια που φόραγα στο σχολείο) και η Stella Mc Cartney είναι μια από τις αγαπημένες μου σχεδιάστριες όχι μόνο για τις απλές και λιτές γραμμές που έχουν τα ρούχα της αλλά και για αυτά που υποστηρίζει σαν μπράντα (όχι γούνες, όχι δέρμα, οργανικά ρούχα). Έτσι λοιπόν όταν έλαβα τον κατάλογο Άνοιξη/Καλοκαίρι 2012, χάρηκα όχι μόνο γιατί η συνεργασία adidas-Mc Cartney συνεχίζεται αλλά γιατί η φωτογραφία και η σκηνοθεσία της καμπάνιας είναι ατμοσφαιρικά και μοιάζουν περισσότερο με editorial μόδας παρά σαν μια καμπάνια για lookbook. Τα εύσημα πάνε στην Viviane Sassen, μια φωτογράφο από την Ολλανδία που έχει δουλέψει διάφορα πρότζεκτ σχετικά με μόδα αλλά και με ένα documentary στην Αφρική.

“the daily exhaustion”…

People have a daily routine no matter what they do in their lives. We wake-up, sleep, go to the loo, have sex, eat, sleep, have sex, wake-up, go to the loo and in between those basic needs we do other things as well. And that is what we call a daily routine, or as Anouk Kruithof saw it, a “daily exhaustion”. /
Οι άνθρωποι έχουμε καθημερινές συνήθειες, πράγματα που κάνουμε στην καθημερινότητα μας. Ξυπνάμε, κοιμόμαστε, πάμε τουαλέτα, κάνουμε σεξ, τρώμε, κοιμόμαστε, κάνουμε σεξ, ξυπνάμε, πάμε τουαλέτα και ανάμεσα σε όλα αυτά κάνουμε και άλλα πράγματα. Αυτό είναι και αυτό που ονομάζουμε καθημερινότητα ή ρουτίνα ή όπως το είδες και ονόμασε η Anouk Kruithof, “the daily exhaustion”.

Anouk Kruithof is a Dutch artist/photographer that I recently became familiar with her work at 4FASHION/SHAKE IV a couple of days ago. “The Daily Exhaustion” is a photographic study documenting herself on different days and time in an almost obsessive way. “The Daily Exhaustion” won this year’s Prize of the 2011 International Fashion and Photography festival in Hyères and part of it was presented at 4FASHION/SHAKE IV. The following video is a glimpse of the book “The Daily Exhaustion”.
Η Anouk Kruithof είναι μια Ολλανδή καλλιτέχνης/φωτογράφος που ανακάλυψα πρόσφατα στο 4FASHION/SHAKE IV την περασμένη εβδομάδα. Το “The Daily Exhaustion” είναι μια φωτογραφική μελέτη που καταγράφει την ίδια σε διάφορες στιγμές και εκφάνσεις τις καθημερινότητας της με έναν τρόπο που θα χαρακτήριζα επίμονο. Το “The Daily Exhaustion” κέρδισε το φετινό βραβείο φωτογραφίας στο φεστιβάλ της Hyères και μέρος του παρουσιάστηκε στο 4FASHION/SHAKE IV. Το παρακάτω βίντεο δείχνει ένα απόσπασμα του βιβλίου “The Daily Exhaustion”.

Kruithof’s latest work that was also presented at 4FASHION/SHAKE IV is “A Head Without Wings” . “A Head Without Wings” is a mixture of photographs that were taken in different places such as Morocco, Egypt and Berlin. What I really likes about that book (although I haven’t seen closely) is the fact that each page unfolds to reveal another piece of information or another fragment of an image in order to reveal the “bigger picture”./

Η τελευταία δουλειά της Kruithof που επίσης παρουσιάστηκε στο 4FASHION/SHAKE IV είχε το όνομα “A Head Without Wings” και είναι μια συλλογή φωτογραφιών από διαφορετικά μέρη όπως το Μαρόκο, η Αίγυπτος και το Βερολίνο. Αυτό που πραγματικά μου άρεσε σε αυτό το βιβλίο (παρόλο που δεν το έχω δει από κοντά) είναι το ότι κάθε σελίδα ξεδιπλώνει για να αποκαλύψει μια πληροφορία ή ένα κομμάτι φωτογραφίας που βοηθάει τον θεαντή/αναγνώστη να σχηματίσει την “μεγαλύτερη εικόνα”.

eleven photo project…

…is about capturing the moment and also one of the most interesting projects that I have seen lately. The people behind it are Dimitris Kanellopoulos (b-positive), Marina Nalbanti (codexseries2) and Thomas Stavrou (thitasigma). Those guys had the idea of inviting and challenging people to take a self-portrait photo at the same day and time. Last year it was ten past ten, October 10th 2010. That’s, 10.10.10 10:10 and you can see the outcome here. Mind you that 111 people participated from all over the world!

This year the challenge remains the same as last year. You should take a self portrait at exactly Friday, the 11th of November, at 11:11am. That is 11.11.11 11:11 For those wishing to submit a night shot, you can shoot at 11.11pm as well!
I think this is a brilliant and fan fan fan idea! Seeing last year’s project it is really interesting to see how people have interpreted the idea of a self portrait and what have they been doing at that particular time of the day!

indian summer…

The title of this post is probably irrelevant to the content of the post, but really who cares? Yesterday I was wearing a jacket that I own since I was about 10 years old! How does it still fit me? Well lets just say that the sleeves are a bit shorter. I also wore my favorite H&M cardigan (I love the fact that the back is c-though) and H&M mocassins. I think that uncosiously the mocassins were the reason that I named the post indian summer. I also did a flickr search for indian summer and I found those lovely images that reminded me that at some point I wanted to make a feather head band. May be I should get on with it…

Ο τίτλος αυτού του ποστ είναι μάλλον άσχετος με το περιεχόμενο του, αλλά δεν νομίζω πως έχει καμία σημασία. Χθες φόραγα ένα σακάκι που το έχω από τότε που ήμουν 10 χρονών. Θα αναρωτιέστε πως μου κάνει ακόμα. Η αλήθεια είναι πως τα μανίκια είναι λίγο πιο κοντά αλλά το παρουσιάζω σαν τρουακάρ! Επίσης χθες φόραγα την αγαπημένη μου H&M ζακέτα (αγαπώ το ότι η πλάτη είναι c-through) και τα H&M μοκασίνια μου, που νομίζω είναι και ο λόγος που ονόμασα το ποστ indian summer. Ψαχούλεψα και λίγο στο flickr και βρήκα πολύ όμορφες φωτογραφίες με ινδιάνικα φτερά που μου θύμισαν πως κάποτε ήθελα να φτιάξω ένα head band από φτερά και δεν το έκανα ποτέ. Ίσως να ήρθε η ώρα…
